Rototherm® - Thin Film Evaporator

Out performs wiped film evaporators

The Artisan Rototherm® is a horizontal, mechanically-aided, thin film evaporator designed to handle a wide range of difficult evaporation and reaction applications.

As an evaporator, the Artisan Rototherm® allows 99%+ evaporation in a single pass, concentrating dilute solutions to powder if necessary. Unlike some vertical wiped film evaporators (WFE), the Rototherm® does not have an internal bushing. The process wall remains fully wetted at all evaporation rates, thus eliminating dry spots.

As a reactor, multiple feed points, multiple temperature zones, controlled residence time, and simultaneous evaporation offer total flexibility for carrying out complex, continuous reactions. Short reaction time results in superior quality and higher yields when compared to batch processing.

The Horizontal Design Advantage

Artisan has over fifty years of experience with the design and manufacture of thin film evaporation process equipment. The horizontal, straight-sided design offers the following advantages over other thin film or wiped film evaporators:
  • No dry spots or fouling
  • Process wall fully wetted at all evaporation rates and feed rates
  • Thin-film unaffected by gravity
  • Higher heat flux due to more uniform film
  • Reduced degradation of heat sensitive materials
  • High turndown of 10:1 or greater
  • Seals and bearings readily accessible
  • No bottom bearing in contact with the process stream
  • High viscosity capability (up to 4x106 cP)
  • Up to 99 percent evaporation in a single pass
  • Negligible pressure drop and entrainment
  • Co-current or counter-current operation
  • Easy installation and maintenance
  • Less solvent required for cleaning

Family of Products

The Artisan Rototherm® is available in a variety of sizes and materials of construction to meet your specific processing needs. Because each application is unique, we use our extensive experience, guided by pilot data from our complete pilot plant facility, to determine the optimal evaporator size to answer the processing need. We have Rototherm®s ranging in size from 1/4 sq. ft. to 250 sq. ft. heated surface, including a laboratory model, the ProTherm™ 50. We can evaporate from several pounds of material per hour to thirty thousand pounds of material per hour, in a single Rototherm®. Other common sizes include 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 100 sq. feet. Steam or oil heating are available. Materials of construction include stainless steel (300 series and Duplex), carbon steel, nickel, Inconel®, Monel®, Hastelloy®, and titanium.

Applications

The Artisan Rototherm® is engineered for the efficient processing of difficult materials: chemicals, foods, pharmaceuticals, plastics, polymers, resins, as well as the concentration of waste streams containing solvents or solids.
