Artisan's Continuous Evaporator/StripperTM offers a unique approach to the stripping of volatiles from relatively nonvolatile products. Designed to combine continuous evaporation and continuous thin film stripping in a single system, the Continuous Evaporation/StripperTM is the most cost-effective way of reducing volatiles in products to ppms and even ppbs.
Advantages of the Continuous Evaporator/StripperTM
- Can operate at very low pressure (micron range)
- Typical total pressure drop of only 1 to 3 torr or lower
- Typical total residence time of only 0.5 to 2 minutes, minimizing the degradation of heat-sensitive products
- Thin film of only 1 mm, minimizing boiling temperatures
- High efficiency mass transfer due to redistribution of falling film at each stage
- Designed to use steam or inert gas sparge, if required
- Tubes can be heated with steam or oil, or have no jacket
- No moving parts to maintain
- Volatiles stripped to ppms and even ppbs
- Fluid viscosity's up to several thousand centipoises
Advantages over Falling-Film designs
- Fresh thin-film formed at each stage
- High degree of concentration in a single pass
- 10:1 turn down
- No difficulty maintaining film on wall, or in liquid distribution
- Multi-product design
- True multi-stage operation
- Low pressure drop
- Short residence time
Family of ProductsThe Artisan Continuous Evaporator/StripperTM is available in a variety of sizes and materials of construction to meet specific processing needs. Because each application is unique, we use our extensive experience, guided by pilot data from our complete pilot plant facility, to determine the optimal Continuous Evaporator/StripperTM size. We offer units as small as 2 inch diameter with 13 stages to a 48 inch diameter with 50 or more stages. Other common diameters include: 4, 6, 10, 18, 24, and 36 inches. Steam or oil heating is available. Materials of construction include: stainless steel (300 series and Duplex), carbon steel, nickel, Hastelloy®, Inconel®, Monel®, and titanium.
ApplicationsThe Artisan Continuous Evaporator/StripperTM is engineered for the efficient removal of volatiles from products, especially under high vacuum. Applications are found in chemical, food, pharmaceutical, plastic, polymer, resin, and waste processing.
Some examples:
- Solvent removal from polymers, surfactants, industrial coatings, fats, waxes, vegetable oils
- Purifying aromatics, tocopherols, alkyl phenols, esters, oleo chemicals
- Recycling solvents, alcohols, ketones
- Stripping heat sensitive products
- Deodorization of polymers, additives, agrichemicals, fish oils, vegetable oils
- Dehydration of organic peroxides or other highly flammable organics
